Signs of Life

For the past week and a half we have all been sick and not doing much. Today was dreary and raining, but Courtney and I had enough energy to put on our rain boots and check out to mud. We now have three blooming tulips, to Courtney's delight they are all pink. And the hyacinths are blooming too(the pink ones already faded). So the color in our yard is starting to wake up. Courtney was excited to see all the dandelions and I already transplanted some violets from the lawn to a place where they can expand and be seen, don't you tell us any flower is a weed!
It was good to see that the sweetwilliams are starting their upward stretch to bloom just after the tulips. And that the purple cone flower(echinacea) self seeded(after I grabbed the seed head and ripped some out letting them fall half hazardly, last fall) so we will had at least three more of those plants. I thought we only had one pea plant seedling that surved what ever was getting them, but I found one to day that some how was saved because it was hiding under an iris rhizome( An Iris for a body gaurd , who would have thought?). The only upsetting thing today is that the recent rains were not very kind to our carrot seedlings and there doesn't seem to be as many. I must be feeling better because I wish it wasn't raining.

Strange things in the laundry room

Something is taking over in there, little green things. We have more than Sixty plants started in the laundry room, just waiting for that last frost date. Tomatoes, peppers, sunflowers, parsley, basil, basil, basil, cucumbers, zucchini and who remembers what else. We planted an apple seed from a locally grown apple that Courtney was eating and to our delite it is coming up. Now we just have to figure out what to do with an apple tree.

We WERE digging the warm weather...

...But Alas, it is gone and it is grey and cold again. We played alot outside and I was able to till(by hand, crazy, I know) another bed that will be for veggies. This time Iwill try to resist putting flowers in it even though I have lots of seeds. With the exception of course of marigolds, such usefull little flowers, I knew they repelled nasty things from the tomatoes, but I also just learned they will keep nematodes out of the soil. And the squirrels don't really seam to eat them like they did in Florida. We also made a worm compost bin this was exciting for Courtney she helped with shredding paper for bedding and dumping them in the box, but She didn't help with the digging at all, which is probably better because I found alot of glass(broken soda bottles) in the ground. I wasn't even finished adding amendments to the soil when ijust had to have strawberry plants. Onions were always in the plan but, strawberries and brussel sprout(although I've heard they do better in the fall) were impulsive. Now we have four seed trays it the house that we have been watching closely and they are starting to show signs of life:marigolds, cucumbers, basil, thyme, and sunflowers.

Finally finished Eema(green) So now Balene(pink ) has a friend. For those who aren't up to date. Courtney loves the movie dinosuar and after wacthing it for the first time she told me she wanted a pink fuzzy dinosaur. Where would I find one of those? I dug through my stash of yarn and found these skiens I picked up for free at a meeting. They are my first attempt at scuptural crochet and I had to shoot from the hip because their were no patterns for these kind of dinosaurs (not that I could find anyway). I may have to make an Aladar (iguanadon) too.

We went hiking at Piedmont Environmental Center on a warm winter day. We planned a picnic and to our delight there was an empty Tee Pee set up, so we had our lunch in there. As you can tell by our faces lunch was delicious.

Everyone should be allowed to blow out their birthday candles in their underpants

Courtney insisted that we take a picture of the Zamboni.

Courtney's Third Brithday

This is how our year starts with Courtney's third Birthday. We went iceskating, then shared some cake with people in the neighborhood and Ma Mere came to visit us.

Hello World Wide Web

We are now out there for everyone to see! We figure if Poppy and Dewitt now can check there email. Everyone we know is on line and we can share what is new. I had no idea what to call it so I asked Courtney she was making pink playdough tulips at the time and thought that would be a fabulous name. So here we are hopefully we will make you laugh!
